About the Artist

Danaye Shiplett, Illustrated Image

I am, above all else, an artist.

I paint with colors, with brushes,

and I paint with words.

Like all professional writers and illustrators, I didn’t start out as a professional. I started out as a reader, as a child devouring fairy tales, fantasy books, and just great fiction. I lived in the world of books. For me, it seemed a natural step to go from reading to writing my own stories and from appreciating art others created to creating my own. Once I started writing and drawing I just couldn’t stop! It didn’t matter how silly and absurd my stories were, I just had to keep writing them! It didn’t matter that my unicorns looked like cows with horns. It was like an addiction. So, I wrote and I drew all through my childhood, and that passion for the creative arts has stayed with me even today.

After high school, I attended college and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and Graphic Design with a minor in English. I have been doing freelance art since high school and currently own my own art and design company. But, my true passion lies in writing and illustrating. Growing up, I did everything I could to learn more and get better at my craft. Even now, I am always writing and drawing. I like to take classes every now and then to get ideas and to learn new ways to write and draw. I also write a blog on my own website. I write lots and lots of poetry and I also am trying to write articles, which I’ve never done. And with my illustrations, I am always trying ways to keep my work fresh and new.

Anyway, I hope that you enjoy my site, and the art and writing found within.

God bless!
