Liberty for All (a SociallyAwkward comic)
Liberty (and justice) for ALL…
Sometimes I get so tired. Tired of all the hatred, dissent, division, and fear. Or, tired of feeling helpless, voiceless, and lost. Most of all, tired of praying and wishing for a better tomorrow, when it all just feels so impossible. Our world crumbles into chaos. Due to this, we fight — we kill — in the name of supposed liberty. But do we really understand what we fight for?
Liberty, at its core, is simple. It means freedom, or the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life, behavior, or political views. Seems like a pretty straightforward idea. But, that simple idea gets twisted into something almost unrecognizable by the people who claim it as their battle cry. Maybe we should focus on the pledge, “…liberty (and justice) for all,” more than the phrase, “Give me liberty, or give me death.”
Funny how people forget that the right to freedom claims no color barriers, no restrictions.
Funnier still how people oppress others’ freedoms in the name of their own.
Except, I don’t find it funny. Not one bit..
And, I will not be silent.
